About Us
Nyandarua National Polytechnic (NYNP) is a technical training institution established through the initiative of the local community and leaders. The land was generously donated by the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI), making NYNP the only public technical institution offering technical training in Nyandarua County.
In the 1990s, a major fundraising drive led to the construction of the first one-story building, completed through contributions from Members of Parliament using Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations. The first cohort of students was admitted in 2006. Nyandarua National Polytechnic has grown remarkably, and as of September 2024, it proudly serves a diverse community of over 10,000 students across various programs.
Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET)
Nyandarua National Polytechnic is committed to the implementation of Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET), which emphasizes practical skills and knowledge that directly align with industry demands.
- CBET programs focus on hands-on training, ensuring graduates are job-ready and equipped with the competencies needed to excel in their respective fields.
- The polytechnic has aligned its curriculum with TVET-CDACC (Curriculum Development, Assessment, and Certification Council) standards to deliver high-quality, competency-based programs.
- Industry partnerships play a crucial role in CBET by providing students with real-world training opportunities through internships and industrial attachments.
- NYNP also supports the development of Portfolios of Evidence (POEs) for CBET students to showcase their practical competencies during assessments.
This approach ensures that graduates meet the needs of the modern workforce, contributing to Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the Big Four Agenda.
