Nyandarua National Polytechnic (NYNP) was started as a public technical training institution through an initiative from the local community and leaders. The land was donated by the KARI. It was and still is, the only public technical institution offering technical training in the entire Nyandarua County. Through a major funds drive in the 90’s, the first one-story building was erected. Members of parliament from the various Constituencies in Nyandarua County came together and through the CDF completed the project. Consequently, the first Batch of Students were admitted in 2006. Since then the polytechnic has grown and now has a student population of over 3,500 students.

A multi-million modern ESP Complex consisting of Workshops, Lecture Rooms, and Offices has been completed, and Currently, a multi-million modern library is under construction. There are four computer laboratories with a total of 130 computers. Some workshops are well-equipped for Automotive, Electrical, Mechanical, and Building related courses.

NYNP is now a recognized public Technical Training Institute that is mandated to offer Technical, Industrial, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Training as spelled out in the Education Act and Science and Technology Act.

NYNP is the only national polytechnic in Nyandarua County guided by the value of integrity, commitment, and fairness while upholding the principles of professionalism, teamwork, and excellence. The nature and quality of training offered by a team of qualified and professional lecturers gives the basis for us to realize the vision of 2030.

Nyandarua National Polytechnic is located seven kilometers from Nyahururu Town along the Nyahururu -Gilgil road in a serene environment conducive to learning. In addition to providing academic and technical skills, we seek to develop in our students creativity and innovation that enables them to integrate successfully in all areas of management in the public and private sectors.

Nyandarua National Polytechnic prides itself on having attained the ISO 9001:2015 certification. The road to certification has given us the impetus to develop homegrown quality objectives to improve service to our customers. Through the achievement of these objectives, we continuously make tremendous progress in contributing to the realization of our strategic plan and the Kenya Vision 2030.

We are committed to our long-term vision of developing a strong technological institution. This will play a leading role in the exploitation of the immense resources and potential of the Nyandarua County region.

We held our 2nd graduation ceremony on 31st May 2018 where over 400 students graduated with diverse Diplomas and Certificates. This was made possible through the combined efforts of the Institute, Board of Governors, Principal, Staff, Parents, and Graduands and the support given by the Government.

In line with our endeavor to produce holistic graduates, our Institute is a recognized member of the President’s Award Scheme Kenya which encourages selfless participation of young people in the service of the public. TNNP offers several Courses in Diploma and Certificate levels examined by KNEC and KASNEB NIST is fully accredited by the Ministry of Education as a TVET Institution. The institute has various facilities for co-curricular activities ranging from Sports and Games, Drama, Scouting, PA, Christian Union, Catholic Association, and Guidance and Counseling.
